In the midst of
growing poverty, unemployment, government corruption, and a freeze
on bank deposits, thousands of Argentines took to the streets
in the final weeks of 2001, an unprecedented public protest which
has changed the political landscape of this once prosperous South
American country. Since then, the country has been undergoing
an often times agonizing process which some have characterized
as "the death of Argentina" and others have called
"the birth of a new republic." This site contains analysis
and personal narratives about the current situation in Argentina
by Argentine and international writers, including articles on
economy, politics, social change, piqueteros, neighborhood assemblies,
worker occupied factories,and globalization.
